Trombone Shorty is a New Orleans-based musician and producer whose real name is Troy Andrews. Born on the 6th of January, 1986 in the Tremé neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana, Trombone Shorty has been playing music since he was four years old. He grew up surrounded by music, as his family was heavily involved in it; his brother James was a trumpet player for the famed Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Initially learning to play the trombone from his brother, Troy took up several other instruments, including drums, trumpet, and guitar. The now world-famous artist got his stage name when he was five years old and began performing with the legendary Rebirth Brass Band on Frenchmen Street in New Orleans. It wasn’t until he formed a Trombone Shorty band called “Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue” that he began to gain serious recognition both locally and overseas. Since then, Trombone Shorty has released six albums and toured the world extensively - making waves at festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits Music Festival. His musical style often incorporates funk into traditional jazz pieces while also incorporating elements of hip-hop and rap music - something which has earned him praise from critics all around the globe. Throughout his career so far, Trombone Shorty has received two Grammy Award nominations – one for Best Contemporary Jazz Album which he won in 2012 for ‘For True’ along with ten additional nominations across various categories for other projects like Voodoo Threauxdown (2018) with Preservation Hall Jazz Band & Galactic. Additionally, he has picked up a few awards including an Ebbie Award from ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers). Establishing himself as an iconic figure in jazz Trombone Shorty music today, there is no doubt that Trombone Shorty Hollywood Bowl will keep pushing boundaries and delivering even more exceptional performances in the future!
