Whitesnake is an English hard rock band formed in London in 1978. David Coverdale, who had recently departed Deep Purple, recruited the group as his backing band. The new band was completed with the addition of Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden on guitars, Neil Murray on bass, Ian Paice on drums, and keyboardist David Rosenthal. The band's debut album Trouble was released in 1978. It reached number 50 in the UK Albums Chart and number 100 in the US Billboard 200. The first single, "Lady Double Dealer", was not a success, but the second single, "Stormbringer", peaked at number 22 on the UK Singles Chart. The band's next album Lovehunter was released in 1979 and reached number nine in the UK. It was supported by the singles "Long Way from Home" and "Ready an' Willing", which peaked at number 29 and number 30 on the UK chart, respectively. Ready an' Willing also included the band's first hit song in North America, "Fool for Your Loving", which reached number 53 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band's third album, Come an' Get It, was released in 1981 and reached number seven in the UK. It was supported by the singles "Don't Break My Heart Again" and "Would I Lie to You?", which peaked at number 29 and number 30 on the UK chart, respectively. The band's fourth album, Saints & Sinners, was released in 1982 and reached number eight in the UK. It was supported by the singles "Crying in the Rain" and "Here I Go Again", which peaked at number 15 and number eight on the UK chart, respectively. Here I Go Again was Whitesnake's first single to reach the US Top 40, peaking at number 22. The band's fifth album, Slide It In, was released in 1984 and reached number two in the UK. It was supported by the singles "Slow an' Easy", "Love Ain't No Stranger", and "Give Me All Your Love", which peaked at number 43, number nine, and number three on the UK chart, respectively. Give Me All Your Love also reached the US Top 40, peaking at number 34.
