Walk the Moon is an American rock band based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The band consists of Nicholas Petricca (lead vocals, keyboards), Kevin Ray (bass guitar, backing vocals), Eli Maiman (guitar, backing vocals), and Sean Waugaman (drums, backing vocals).
The group independently released their debut album, I Want! I Want!, in November 2010, receiving airplay for the song "Anna Sun" on multiple Alternative radio stations. The single became a Top Ten hit in the United States, peaking at number ten on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and number five on the Billboard Rock Songs chart. The band's second album, Walk the Moon, was released on June 19, 2012 and subsequently peaked at number six on the Billboard 200. The lead single, "Quesadilla", became their second Top Ten Alternative hit and peaked at number five on the Billboard Adult Pop Songs chart; their third single, "Tightrope", was released to radio in late September 2012 and reached the top 40 of the Alternative Songs chart. Their fourth and current single, "Shut Up and Dance", was released to radio on September 10, 2014 and became their first single to reach number one on the Alternative Songs chart.
The band's self-titled second album was certified double platinum in the United States in 2016. The group has toured extensively, performing with such acts as Muse, Young the Giant, Passion Pit, Fitz and The Tantrums, Panic! at the Disco, and American Authors. They have also performed on several late-night talk shows including Conan, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and The Late Show with David Letterman. In 2014, they performed on Good Morning America.
The band's third album, Talking Is Hard, was released on December 2, 2014. The lead single, "Shut Up and Dance", topped the Alternative Songs chart and reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100; it has since gone platinum in the United States five times. The album's second single, "Work This Body", was released to radio in February 2016 and peaked at number eight on the Alternative Songs chart. The album's third single, "One Foot", was released to radio in May 2017 and peaked at number seven on the Alternative Songs chart.
