Ville Hermanni Valo is a Finnish musician who specializes in singing and songwriting. He is best known as the lead singer of HIM, which he founded in 1991.
Valos career in music began in 1989, when he formed the band His Infernal Majesty, which was later renamed HIM. The band released their debut album, Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666, in 1997. The album was a commercial success, reaching number one in Finland and the top ten in several other countries.
In 2005, HIM released their most successful album to date, Dark Light. The album peaked at number one in Finland and the United States, and was certified platinum in both countries.
HIM has released eight studio albums, one live album, and two compilations. The band has sold over three million albums worldwide.
Valos musical style has been described as gothic rock, gothic metal, and alternative rock. He has also been credited with creating the love metal genre.
Valo has been in a number of movies and television shows. He played a supporting role in the 1998 short film Asphalto, which was directed by Ilppo Pohjola. In Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa's Finnish dub from 2008, Valo provided the voice of Moto Moto. Additionally, Valo has made appearances in a number of Bam Margera productions, such as Viva La Bam and Jackass Number Two.
Valo has remained steadfast in his belief that he is not an actor, jokingly declaring in 2013: "I've always felt that [HIM needs] to sell about 80 million copies more for me to become an actor, a painter, an opera singer, or a TV personality." Despite receiving offers for a number of small acting roles.
