About The Doobie Brothers

The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band with a wide range of styles and impressive vocal harmonies. They were formed in 1970 in San Jose, California. The group has been active for fifty years and experienced the majority of its success in the 1970s. It currently consists of founding members Tom Johnston (guitars, vocals) and singer-songwriter Patrick Simmons (guitars, vocals), alongside Michael McDonald (keyboards, vocals) and John McFee (guitars, pedal steel, violin, backing vocals), Dave Shogren, the bassist. The group also employs touring musicians including John Cowan (bass, vocals), Marc Russo (saxophones), Ed Toth (drums), and Marc Quiñones (percussion). Some of the longest-serving members of the band are guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (1974–1979), bassist Tiran Porter (1972–1980, 1987–1992), and drummers John Hartman (1970–1979, 1987–1992), Michael Hossack (1971–1973, 1987 –2012 ), and Keith Knudsen( 1973 –1982, 1993—2005 ). The group played gospel-style songs such as "Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)" and " Jesus is Just Alright." They also wrote songs in a variety of styles, from country and folk-rock to soul and funk.

The group experienced their greatest success in the 70s with multi-platinum albums such as Toulouse Street (1972), The Captain and Me (1973), and Minute By Minute (1978). Their biggest hits included "Listen To The Music," "China Grove," and "Long Train Runnin'," all of which were Billboard Top 40 hits. The Doobie Brothers had another number-one hit with "Black Water" in 1975. In 1989, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They continue to tour and record new music today, as well as re-recordings of some of their greatest hits. The Doobie Brothers are one of the most influential and beloved bands of all time. They are an iconic symbol in American music history, representing a unique blend of genres from soft rock to country rock. With their strong vocal harmonies and passionate lyrics, they have created timeless classics that will live on for generations to come. Over the years, the Doobie Brothers have released over two dozen studio, live, and compilation albums. In 2020, they released the critically acclaimed album World Gone Crazy, which was their first album in over a decade.
