Skid Row is an American rock band, formed in 1986 in Toms River, New Jersey. The Skid Row rock band's current lineup consists of lead vocalist Sebastian Bach, guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo, bassist Rachel Bolan, and drummer Scotti Hill. Skid Row's new singer is Erik Grönwall, who seamlessly blends in with the rest of his bandmates, inspiring a dynamic synergy. The group achieved commercial success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their first two albums Skid Row (1989) and Slave to the Grind (1991). The band's third album, Subhuman Race (1995), was also critically acclaimed but failed to achieve the same level of commercial success as its predecessors. After replacing Bach with Johnny Solinger and releasing another album, Revolutions per Minute (2003), Skid Row went on hiatus in 2006. The Skid Row band reunited in 2015 with Bach back as lead vocalist. The band was formed in 1986 from the remains of two local New Jersey bands, Bon Jovi and Racquet Club. Sebastian Bach Skid Row was the lead singer for both bands and he brought bassist Rachel Bolan and guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo with him when the two groups merged. The new band, named "Skid Row" after a street in New York City, began playing shows in clubs around the tri-state area. The album's first single, "Youth Gone Wild", was a top 40 hit and its follow-up, "18 and Life", reached the top 10. The band's second album, Slave to the Grind, was released in 1991 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The album's title track and first single, "Monkey Business", were both top 40 hits. The album's success was short-lived, however, as Bolan left the band during the tour in support of the album. His replacement, former Ozzy Osbourne drummer Rob Affuso, was not well-received by fans and was fired after only a few months. In 1999, Skid Row regrouped with Rob Hammersmith as the most recent drummer, and Johnny Solinger serving as Bach's successor. After playing with the band for a year, former DragonForce vocalist ZP Theart has anointed the group's official lead singer in January 2017. Theart remained with Skid Row until March 2022, when the band replaced him with current frontman Erik Grönwall. Guitarist for Skid Row Dave "Snake" Sabo was recently questioned this 2023 about the waning appeal of artists from the '80s rock and metal scene. Similar to Snider, he said that the subgenre had simply reached its peak and that audience members were looking for something new. In the same interview, Sabo revealed that he enjoys grunge music and acknowledged that the scene did attribute some of the events that were taking place to grunge. Sabo's analysis seems to be in line with many of his contemporaries and seems a sensible conclusion in hindsight, regardless of how he may have felt at the time. He is also entirely correct about bands being mislabeled as belonging to the wrong scene; whether it was grunge or hair metal, these labels sought to confine artists to particular genres and eras.
