Scandal is an American rock band from the 1980s fronted by Patty Smyth. The band had hits with the songs "The Warrior" and "Goodbye to You", both of which reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Other singles released by the band included "Ship of Fools" and "beat of a Heart".
Guitarist Zack Smith founded Scandal in 1981 in New York City. Ivan Elias on bass (1950-1995), Keith Mack on guitar (1953-2012), Benjy King on keyboard (1954-2005), Frankie LaRocka on drums (1954-2005) (later replaced by Thommy Price), and Patty Smyth on vocals were the other founding members. Jon Bon Jovi, the band's lead singer, also briefly played guitar in 1983.
The band's debut album, Warrior, was released in 1984 on the Columbia Records label. The album's first single, "The Warrior", reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped propel the album to platinum status. The success of "The Warrior" led to Scandal touring with Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi.
The band's second album, Love's Got a Line on You, was released in 1985. The first single from the album, "Goodbye to You", reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped the album achieve gold status.
In 1986, Scandal toured with Bob Dylan and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. The band also appeared on the NBC television showSaturday Night Live.
In 1987, Scandal released their third album, From the Heart. The first single from the album, "Ship of Fools", reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The band's fourth and final album, Back to Basics, was released in 1989. The first single from the album, "Beat of a Heart", reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Scandal disbanded in 1991. Smyth went on to have a successful solo career, while Mack and Price formed the band Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Elias died in 1995, and King died in 2005.
In 2012, Smith and Smyth reunited Scandal with a new lineup featuring guitarist Jeff Kazee, bassist Scott Devours, and drummer Liberty DeVitto. The band released a new album, Something More, in 2014.
In 2016, Scandal was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
