Sail On recreates the music to an Endless Summer entirely live and in rich detail by performing all of the Beach Boys' famous singles in addition to some gems from the group's amazing expanded catalog.
The Beach Boys are an iconic American rock band whose songs about sunny beaches and teenage love began making waves in 1961. The band, led by brothers Brian and Carl Wilson, produced some of the most influential music of the 20th century, including such hits as “Surfin’ Safari,” “Fun, Fun, Fun,” and “Good Vibrations.” The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
The Beach Boys started as a garage band, with Brian Wilson acting as the composer, arranger, producer, and de facto leader. Their father MurryWilson managed them. The Beach Boys achieved mainstream success with their sixth studio album, Pet Sounds (1966), which peaked at number two in the US and number 10 in the UK. The album was preceded by the release of the lead single “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and followed by the singles “Sloop John B” and “God Only Knows”—the latter of which is widely considered one of the greatest songs ever written.
The Beach Boys’ next album, Smile (1967), was initially intended to build on the success of Pet Sounds. However, due to creative differences within the band, Smile was never completed and remained unreleased until 2011. The Beach Boys’ subsequent album, Smiley Smile (1967), was a pared-down version of Smile that nonetheless contained the single “Good Vibrations,” which became one of the band’s most iconic songs.
The Beach Boys continued to enjoy success throughout the 1970s and 1980s with such albums as Sunflower (1970), Surf’s Up (1971), and The Beach Boys Love You (1977). In the 1990s, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and they released a successful album of new material, Stars and Stripes Vol. 1 (1996). The Beach Boys remain active to this day, and continue to tour and release new music.
