Pinegrove is an American rock band formed in Montclair, New Jersey in 2010. The band consists of Evan Stephens Hall (lead vocals, guitar), Zack Levine (drums), Sam Skinner (keyboards, vocals, guitar), and Nick Levine (bass).
The band's first album, Meridian, was released on Run for Cover Records in 2016 to critical acclaim. The band's second album, Skylight, was released on February 16, 2018.
Pinegrove has been described as "indie rock", "emo", and "twang-inflected punk". The band's sound has been compared to that of such acts as Brand New, the Front Bottoms, the Get Up Kids, and Descendents.
Pinegrove are renowned for its literary lyricism and devoted fanbase, who go by the name "Pinenuts." The band's name is derived from an eye-catching row of pine trees at a nature preserve at Kenyon College, where Hall studied. They are renowned for their use of the ampersand (&) in artwork and merchandising as well as their geometric iconography, particularly their use of square shapes. Pinegrove are renowned for their support of progressive causes, such as giving to civil rights organizations in the form of donations.
Pinegrove has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. The band has performed at a number of festivals, including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and South by Southwest.
