Mike Campbell is a renowned American guitarist, songwriter, and producer. He is best known as the lead guitarist of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, with whom he performed and recorded for over 35 years. Mike has also been a member of the musical collective The Dirty Knobs since 2011. Mike's career began in Gainesville, Florida in 1966 when he joined his first band The Epics. His unique style of guitar playing quickly made him a local favorite, leading to an invitation to join Mudcrutch in 1970. After moving to Los Angeles with the band, Mike was asked by Tom Petty to join The Heartbreakers in 1975. During his time with the group, Mike wrote or co-wrote several songs including "Don't Come Around Here No More," "Runnin' Down A Dream," "A Woman In Love (It's Not Me)," and "The Waiting." In addition to his work with The Heartbreakers, Mike has collaborated with many other popular artists such as Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra. He has also produced tracks for other artists such as Lucinda Williams and Howie Epstein of The Heartbreakers.
As a solo artist, he released two albums - Let Me Up (I've Had Enough) in 1987 and 1989's Goodbye Cruel World. In 2018, he released his third album titled Keeping My Composure which featured guest appearances from Benmont Tench and Steve Ferrone; both members of The Heartbreakers. Mike Campbell has been recognized for his contributions to music throughout his career by being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame alongside Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in 2002 as well as receiving numerous awards including 3 Grammys for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal ("Mary Jane's Last Dance," "You Don't Know How It Feels" and "I Won't Back Down").
