Max Weinberg, born on April 13th 1951, is an accomplished drummer and television personality. He is most well-known for his work as the drummer of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. He is an American musician who gained prominence as the bandleader for Conan O'Brien on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Weinberg has also played with such artists as Lou Reed, Neil Young, and Paul McCartney. In addition to his work in music, Weinberg is also an occasional actor. He has appeared in episodes of the television series The Sopranos and 30 Rock. He has also cameoed as himself in the films This Is Spinal Tap and Baby's Day Out. Weinberg is currently a member of the bandleader for The Max Weinberg 7, which is the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He is also the bandleader for The Max Weinberg Big Band.
Weinberg started drumming when he was young, raised in suburban New Jersey. His father, Eli Weinberg, was a big band musician who played drums with the likes of Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. His mother, Rosalie Weinberg, was a homemaker. Max Weinberg's first professional gig was playing drums for a local rock band called The 400 Group when he was 14 years old. Weinberg went on to attend Yale University, where he majored in history. During his time at Yale, he played drums in a band called Rhodes Scholars. He graduated from Yale in 1973 and then moved to New York City, where he tried to find work as a drummer. He eventually landed a gig playing drums for the rock band Flasher.
