Lagwagon is an American punk rock band originally from Goleta, California, just outside Santa Barbara. The band was formed in late 1987 by Joey Cape, a lead singer and songwriter for Bad Astronaut, and Derrick Plourde, the drummer for Bad Religion. The two had played together in the punk rock band The Descendents. The band's first release was a self-titled EP in 1988 on Fat Wreck Chords. The band's first full-length album, Duh, was released in 1989.
Lagwagon's early material is characterized by a melodic, California punk sound that draws from the varied musical influences of the band members. The band's later work incorporates a more aggressive sound and lyrical themes that are more emotionally charged than their earlier material.
I Think My Older Brother Used to Listen to Lagwagon is an EP that was released by Lagwagon in 2008. Due to Cape starting a solo career and releasing Bridge in 2008 and Doesn't Play Well with Others in 2010, Lagwagon has taken a break from touring and composing despite prior rumours that the band will start recording their second full-length studio album by 2009.
Lagwagon has released nine studio albums, two live albums, three compilations, and one EP. The band's most recent album, Hang, was released in 2014.
Lagwagon is currently signed to Fat Wreck Chords. The band has been on hiatus since 2013, but has recently announced plans to reunite for a series of shows in 2019.
