John Kay is a German-born Canadian rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist known as the frontman of Steppenwolf. Born in Togo to missionary parents, Kay moved with his family to Canada when he was a child. His interest in music began at an early age, and he was playing in bands by the time he was a teenager. He eventually found success with Steppenwolf, who released their self-titled debut album in 1968. The album featured the hit single "Born to Be Wild", which helped to propel the band to international stardom. Steppenwolf would go on to release a number of successful albums throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, including Monster (1969), The Second (1970), For Ladies Only (1971), and Skullduggery (1972). However, internal tensions within the band began to surface, and Kay left Steppenwolf in 1974. He released a solo album, Forgotten Songs and Unsung Heroes, in 1975, but it was not a commercial success. He then formed the short-lived group Starry Eyed and Laughing, which released one album in 1976 before disbanding. Kay returned to Steppenwolf in 1980, but the band was unable to recapture its former success. They released a handful of albums over the next decade before finally calling it quits in 1995. In the years since, Kay has continued to tour and release new music, both with Steppenwolf and as a solo artist. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005. Finding John Kay tickets for cheap can be tough, but Yadara has got you covered.
