Jim Messina is an American musician, songwriter, singer, guitarist, recording engineer, and record producer who has been a major force in the music industry for over five decades. His career began in 1966 when he joined Buffalo Springfield as a bassist and vocalist. Jim Messina band released three albums before disbanding in 1968. After leaving Buffalo Springfield, Messina co-founded the pioneering country rock band Poco with Richie Furay. Poco recorded nine studio albums that featured some of their most popular songs such as "Crazy Love", "Heart of The Night", and "Call It Love". In 1971 Jim Messina formed a partnership with Kenny Loggins that resulted in one of the most successful duos of all time; Loggins and Messina. Together they released eight studio albums with hit singles like "Your Mama Don't Dance" and "Danny's Song". They also released several live albums during their career including Full Sail Live (1973) and On Stage (1974). In 1977 Jim Messina left Loggins & Messina to pursue his solo career. He released four solo albums; Oasis (1978), One More Mile (1979), Native Sons (1980), and Border Town (1982).
All four albums featured hit singles such as "Angry Eyes" and "Vahevala". Throughout his career, Jim Messina has been honored with numerous awards including Grammy Award nominations for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal for his work on Poco's album Legend (1989). He was also inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2017 alongside other legendary musicians such as Johnny Cash, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, and more.
