Jethro Tull, an English rock band formed in 1967, has been a major influence on the progressive rock genre. The group’s signature sound was created by combining elements of folk music and jazz with hard rock and blues. Led by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ian Anderson, Jethro Tull has released over 30 studio albums since their debut album This Was in 1968. The band's first hit single "Living in the Past" was released in 1972, reaching #3 on the UK Singles Chart and #24 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. This success was followed up with their sixth studio album Aqualung, which is considered to be one of their most successful works. It reached #7 on the US Billboard 200 chart and featured singles such as "Hymn 43" and "Aqualung". In 1974, Jethro Tull won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental for their song "Cross-Eyed Mary".
Throughout their career, Jethro Tull has continued to release critically acclaimed albums such as Heavy Horses (1978), Crest of a Knave (1987), Catfish Rising (1991), Roots to Branches (1995), and Aqualung Live (2001). They have also received numerous awards including two Ivor Novello Awards for Outstanding Contribution to British Music in 1988 and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards in 2006.
