The all-female rock group HAIM (pronounced like "lime"), composed of three sisters who each play a multitude of instruments, hails from Los Angeles. Though their recorded music has more of a pop sound, their live shows incorporate a heavier rock influence. The three Haim sisters are Este, Danielle Haim, and Alana Haim, as well as drummer Dash Hutton. Their father, Mordechai "Moti" Haim, was a drummer who played soccer for Maccabi Jaffa and Maccabi Los Angeles. Their Polish-descent mother, Donna, plays guitar and won a contest on The Gong Show in the 1970s covering a Bonnie Raitt song. They are Jews of Jewish heritage. Hebrew for "life" is "Haim." The HAIM sisters' first musical experience was performing covers with their parents in Rockingham. In 2000, they performed their debut show at Los Angeles Deli Canter's, a popular eatery in the city. For the cover of Women in Music Pt. III, director Paul Thomas Anderson shot the Haim sisters inside the same deli. In 2005, Danielle and Este quickly joined a prefabricated pop-rock band known as the Valli Girls. They managed to land a spot for one of their songs on the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants soundtrack.

Alana and Ariel Haim play sisters with the same first names in Licorice Pizza. Their parents, Moti and Donna, also play their respective character's parents. Alana has the lead role of a 25-year-old who falls for a 15-year-old boy. The movie was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who is known for directing some of Haim's videos. The band was given a nod for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their sophomore effort, Something to Tell You, came out in July 2017. Women in Music Pt. III is the title of their third critically acclaimed album, which was released in June 2020. The group received nods for Album of the Year (for Women in Music Pt. III) and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps") at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. The girls didn't wait long to score a deal with Polydor Records and spent the next few months playing live for their growing US fanbase. They even got to share stages with huge acts like Mumford & Sons and Florence and the Machine.
