Clan of Xymox, also known as simply Xymox, is a Dutch rock band from Nijmegen formed in 1981. They are best known as pioneers of darkwave music, blending an eclectic and vibrant mix of darkwave, synthpop, and gothic rock. The group consists of Ronny Moorings (vocals/guitar/keyboards), Mojca Zugna (vocals/keyboards), Mario Usai (bass guitar), and Anka Wolbert (vocals/bass). The Xymox band released their debut album "Clan of Xymox" in 1985 on 4AD Records. It was followed by the albums "Medusa" (1986), "Twist of Shadows" (1989), and "Phoenix" (1991). In 1992 they released their fifth album "Headclouds", which featured the single "Obsession". This song became a hit in Europe and the United States. The band then released two more albums: "Creatures" (1995) and "Hidden Faces" (1996). In 1997, the Clan of Xymox signed to Metropolis Records and released their seventh album, "Notes from the Underground". This album featured the single "Louise", which became a hit in Europe. They followed this up with the albums "Farewell" (1999), "Living Here" (2002), and their most recent release, “Matters Of Mind Body And Soul” in 2014.
Clan of Xymox have won numerous awards throughout their career including Best New Artist at the Dutch Music Awards in 1986, Best Album at the Dutch Music Awards for “Twist Of Shadows” in 1989, Best Single at the Dutch Music Awards for “Obsession” in 1992, Best Alternative Band at the Dutch Music Awards in 1995 and Best Album at the German Alternative Music Awards for “Notes From The Underground” in 1998. In 2023, the Clan of Xymox will embark on a North American tour with support acts The Bellwether Syndicate and Black Nite Crash. The tour will kick off in Toronto before heading to Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The Clan of Xymox has been making music for over 40 years now and remains one of the most influential bands within darkwave music today.
