BoomBox is a Ukrainian rock and pop band consisting of singer Andriy Khlyvnyuk and guitarist Andriy “Fly” Samoylo. The band was formed in 2006 in Kharkiv and released their first album “BoomBox” in 2007. BoomBox has won multiple awards, including “Best Ukrainian Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards, “Best Group” at the Yuna Music Awards, and “Artist of the Year” at the Gazeta Music Awards. BoomBox has toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States, appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Bonnaroo. The group has played in a number of Ukrainian locations, including Lviv, Odessa, Kovel, Uzhhorod, and even Kyiv as late as the beginning of 2022. They have given performances throughout the USA, Canada, and other European nations. They performed a ten-year anniversary tour across North America in 2015. 2015 saw BoomBox performing in London at a benefit concert for the Belarus Free Theatre. Khlyvnyuk's visa issues prevented him from traveling, therefore the rest of the band supported Pink Floyd's David Gilmour by playing a selection of Pink Floyd and Gilmour solo songs. The band stopped playing in Russia following the invasion of Crimea by Russia in 2014. The band postponed a North American tour in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and all of its members enlisted in the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces. While wearing a military uniform, Khlyvnyuk recorded an a cappella rendition of the Ukrainian folk ballad "Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow" in Kyiv and shared it on social media. To support Ukraine, South African musician The Kiffness remixed Khlyvnyuk's recording. Khlyvnyuk's voice were used in the single "Hey, Hey, Rise Up!" written and produced by Pink Floyd, headed by David Gilmour, and released in April 2022 in support of Ukraine.
