Biffy Clyro is a Scottish rock band formed in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, and composed of Simon Neil (guitar, lead vocals), James Johnston (bass, vocals), and Ben Johnston (drums, vocals). They currently have a contract with 14th Floor Records and have released nine studio albums. Puzzle, Only Revolutions, Opposites, Ellipsis, A Celebration of Endings, The Myth of the Happily Ever After (The Wedding Album), Balance, Not Symmetry and SEEK. In February 2013, the band announced a change in direction with the release of their eighth album, Opposites. The album charted at number two on the UK Albums Chart upon its release. It was also the band's first double album. The band's ninth album, Ellipsis, was released on 8 July 2016. The band has sold 11 million albums worldwide. Biffy Clyro was nominated for Best Rock Band at the 2013 Kerrang! Awards. In November 2013, they were awarded "Best Live Act" at the Q Awards. On 25 August 2015, the band was awarded "Best British Band" at the 2015 Kerrang! Awards. Biffy Clyro formed in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, Scotland, in a small local music scene that included cover bands such as Badger and Treachery. The band's trademark sound is heavy guitar riffs with three-part vocal harmony. The band's debut album, Blackened Sky, was released in 2002. It was followed by two more albums of heavy rock music, The Vertigo of Bliss (2003) and Infinity Land (2004). The trio then took a break from recording to tour for eighteen months. On their return, the band released Puzzle, their first album to reach the top ten in the UK. The lead single from Puzzle, "Saturday Superhouse", entered the UK Singles Chart at number nine, while the album reached number two in the UK Albums Chart. The band released their fifth album, Only Revolutions, in 2009. The album's first single, "Mountains", became the band's first UK top ten hits, reaching number eight. The second single from the album, "Bubbles", peaked at number eighteen. The album was nominated for the 2010 Mercury Prize.
