Established in 1978, Bauhaus is a renowned English rock band formed in Northampton and is revered for its alluringly dark image and haunting sound. The album's lead single, "Ziggy Stardust", was a tribute to the late David Bowie. The single was a minor hit in the UK but failed to chart in the US. The group's third album, The Sky's Gone Out, was released in 1982. The album reached number four on the UK charts and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry. The group disbanded in 1983 but reunited for a series of tours between 1998 and 2005. Bauhaus was an influential band, that helped to pioneer the gothic rock genre. They have been cited as an influence by a number of other artists, including Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, and Joy Division.
