Amy Macdonald was born on 25 August 1987 in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, near Glasgow, Scotland. She has a younger brother, Jamie. When she was five years old, her parents gave her a guitar as a Christmas present and soon after she began playing and writing songs. As a child she attended Kirkintilloch High School.
