Shalamar, the American R&B and soul group active since the late 1970s, has been a major influence in popular music for decades. Founded by Howard Hewett, Jeffrey Daniel, and Jody Watley, Shalamar quickly rose to fame with their debut album Uptown Festival (1977), which included the hit singles "Uptown Festival" and "Take That to the Bank". The album was certified gold in the US and UK. Shalamar released several more albums throughout their career including Big Fun (1978), Three for Love (1980), Friends (1982), and Heartbreak (1984). Each of these albums featured several chart-topping singles such as "The Second Time Around", "Make That Move" and "A Night To Remember". All of these songs were certified platinum or gold in the US. In addition to their studio albums, Shalamar released two live albums: Live at the Apollo (1984) and Live at Wembley (1985). Both of these live albums were critically acclaimed and featured some of their most popular songs.
In 1985, Shalamar disbanded after releasing their final album Circumstantial Evidence. Despite this, they have reunited several times over the years for special performances. They are currently scheduled to perform on a tour across Europe in 2023. This tour will feature all of their classic hits as well as some new material written specifically for this tour. Fans can expect to hear timeless classics like “A Night To Remember”, “Make That Move”, “The Second Time Around” and many more! Throughout their career, Shalamar has been recognized with numerous awards including three Grammy Award nominations for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group twice in 1981 and 1982; an American Music Award nomination; two Soul Train Awards; four Billboard Awards; three NAACP Image Awards; two Goldene Europa awards; two Ivor Novello Awards; and a Silver Clef Award. In addition to these awards, Shalamar was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2006 for outstanding contributions to dance music culture.
