Santhosh Narayanan is an astounding Indian composer and musician from the Tamil film industry, who hails from Tiruchirappalli, India. Born as the younger of two kids, Santhosh was educated at RSK Higher Secondary School in Tiruchirappalli – a place that offers educational excellence to its students. After graduating from J.J College of Engineering and Technology in Tiruchirapalli with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Santhosh Narayanan embarked on his career as a recording engineer, arranger, and programmer. Later he ventured into the world of independent music production and composing for films - an example to be followed by many dreamers. For the Telugu short film Advaitham, he created two original songs and composed all of the music.
In 2009, he collaborated with the contemporary folk music group "La Pongal" and showcased his talents in a few live performances. Santhosh quickly got to work on some of Rahman's soundtracks, kicking off with Guru. He officially debuted as a solo music director in 2012, composing the soundtrack for Tamil movie Attakathi, directed by Pa. Ranjith. C. V. Kumar, the producer of the film stumbled upon Santhosh in his studio and offered him an incredible opportunity: to compose a Gaana song for the movie - "Aadi Pona Aavani". He also gave Gana Bala - who had only been singing gaana songs at funerals until that point- a chance to sing it too. The song became an instant hit and won several awards. Since then, Santhosh Narayanan has composed music for several films in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
'Aadi Pona Aavani' and 'Nadukadalula Kappala,' both recorded for the film, were instant hits that thrust Gana Bala into stardom. Not only did they become immensely popular, but their success spurred a renewed interest in Tamil cinema- bringing back gaana to its once thriving stage. 2016 had a remarkably abundant music scene for Santhosh Narayanan, with six releases that year including works from Iruthi Suttru, Manithan, Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum, Iraivi, Kabali, and Kaashmora. Initially, he was connected to Dulquer Salmaan's 2021 Malayalam film 'Salute', but was eventually replaced by Jakes Bejoy. His musical mastery shined through when he composed the soundtrack and score for Sarpatta Parambarai; making it his fifth collaboration with acclaimed director Pa.
