Groovefest Music & Art Festival - formally known as Groovefest American Music Festival- is an annual music festival located in Cedar City, Utah. The week-long event occurs at the end of June and celebrates different styles of Americana music such as blues, folk, bluegrass, country, and jazz.
Trampled by Turtles, Pert Near Sandstone, Richmond Fontaine, Great American Taxi, 56 Hope Road, Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, Cee Cee James, Stranger, Harper & Midwest Kind (formerly known as Wayne "The Train" Hancock), and Jackstraw are among the notable artists to have released music there.
Groovefest was started in 2006 by Mike and Kathy Flynn, who are also the founders of the American music magazine Blurt. The event is held at Cedar City Town Park and features four main stages: the Main Stage, the Roots Stage, the Acoustic Stage, and the Kids' Stage. In addition, to live music, Groovefest also offers workshop opportunities for attendees to learn about different aspects of Americana music.
Past Groovefest headliners include Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, John Prine, Lucinda Williams, and Ryan Adams. The festival is also known for its artist-in-residence program, which has hosted such musicians as Dave Alvin, Jim Lauderdale, and Alvin Youngblood Hart.
