About Patti LaBelle

Patti LaBelle is an African-American singer who was born Patricia Louise Holt-Edwards in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 24, 1944. She began singing in a church choir at the age of five and later joined a local gospel group called the Ordettes when she was a teenager. The Ordettes landed a record deal with Atlantic Records in 1960, but they achieved little commercial success and disbanded a few years later. In 1963, LaBelle began performing with a new group called the Bluebelles. The Bluebelles had several hit singles, including "I Sold My Heart to the Junkman" and "Down the Aisle (The Wedding Song)," before changing their name to Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles in 1971. The group found greater success with their new name and released a string of popular albums, including 1972's Labelle and 1974's Nightbirds, which featured the hits "Lady Marmalade" and "What Can I Do for You?" LaBelle and the Bluebelles disbanded in 1976, and LaBelle embarked on a solo career. She released her debut album, Patti LaBelle, later that year and had a huge hit with the single "You Are My Friend." LaBelle's follow-up album, Tasty Love (1986), featured the hits "If Only You Knew" and "New Attitude." On her 2019 concert tour, Patti Labelle will give an electrifying performance of her greatest hits and a heartfelt tribute to the late Aretha Franklin. While the BET Awards are known as hip-hop's grandest evening, they made sure to pay homage to the Queen of Rock. Paying homage to the late rock legend Tina Turner, who passed away in May, Patti LaBelle delivered a captivating performance at the BET Awards. Draped in a dazzling black fringe dress, LaBelle graced the stage, captivating the audience with her vibrant rendition of "The Best," a timeless Turner classic. "Ladies and gentlemen, let's give a round of applause for Tina Turner," LaBelle exclaimed as the performance began. However, even the greatest performers can stumble occasionally. At one point during the show, LaBelle encountered a technical issue with the teleprompter, causing her to stumble over some of the song's lyrics. With a touch of improvisation, she candidly addressed the studio audience, saying, "I'm giving it my all, y'all." Don’t miss out on this Patti LaBelle 2024 tour and track your favorite artists!
