Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, also known as Nanna, is an Icelandic singer-songwriter who has become one of the most beloved artists in the music industry. She began her career in 2004 when she joined the band Seabear and released her first album, The Ghost That Carried Us Away. Her unique voice and style quickly gained recognition and she soon became a household name in Iceland. In 2009, Nanna released her debut solo album, I Will Always Be Yours. This was followed by two more albums: And She Closed Her Eyes (2011) and I Am (2015). Nanna is known for her captivating live performances, which often feature her playing multiple instruments such as guitar, piano, and ukulele. Her music is a mix of folk-pop with elements of jazz and classical influences that often feature strings and brass sections. Nanna has earned numerous awards throughout her career including the Icelandic Music Award for Best Female Artist in 2011 and 2016.
She has also been nominated for the Nordic Music Prize twice (2013 & 2017). In 2020, she was awarded the prestigious Order of Merit by the President of Iceland for her contribution to Icelandic culture through music.
