Hi Five is a legendary R&B group from Waco, Texas, that was formed in 1990. The group was composed of Tony Thompson, Marcus Sanders, Russell Neal, Roderick Clark, and Treston Irby. Hi Five’s self-titled debut album was released in 1990 by Jive Records and was certified gold. The album produced the hit single "I Just Can't Handle It," which peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Hi Five went on to release four more albums under Jive Records, with their second album, "Keep It Goin' On," being their most successful, selling over one million copies. In 1993, Hi Five band released the single "She's Playing Hard to Get," which became their biggest hit, reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was featured on their third album, "Faithful," which was released the same year. In 1994, Hi Five was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for R&B Single of the Year with "She's Playing Hard to Get."
In 2000, Hi Five returned with their fourth album, "The Return." However, the album was not as successful as their previous releases. In 2012, Marcus Sanders rejoined the group, and they released the single "It's Nothing," which received some radio airplay. Hi Five has been honored with numerous awards and nominations throughout their career. They received an American Music Award nomination for Favorite Soul/R&B New Artist in 1990. In addition, Hi Five has been nominated for two Soul Train Music Awards and two Billboard Music Awards. Looking ahead to 2023, Hi Five has announced a world tour that will kick off in January.
