Gabi Wilson, better known by her stage name H.E.R., is an American singer and songwriter. She signed with RCA Records in 2016 and released her self-titled debut EP the following year. The EP earned Wilson a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. Wilson was born in Vallejo, California, on June 27, 1997. She began playing piano at the age of five and guitar at the age of nine. As a child, she cites Lauryn Hill, India Arie, Stevie Wonder, and John Legend as her musical influences. Wilson's mother is African-American and her father is of Puerto Rican descent. In 2012, Wilson competed on the television show The Voice, but she was eliminated in the battle rounds. After her elimination, Wilson began to focus on her songwriting. In 2014, she co-wrote the song "I Won't Give Up" for Christina Aguilera's album Lotus.
