Ali Gatie was born in 1997, in Toronto, Canada. His father is from Iraq and his mother is from Kuwait. He has four brothers and sisters. Gatie was raised as a Shia Muslim. Gatie began playing guitar and writing songs at the age of 14. When he was 16, he started posting videos of himself singing original songs on YouTube. In 2016, Gatie released his debut single, "It's You," which became a viral hit and has been viewed over 100 million times on YouTube. Records in 2018 and released his first EP, The Orange Room, that same year. Following the success of his 2018 single releases, he was quickly signed by Warner Records. His track "Moonlight" emerged as a resounding commercial hit with nearly 14 million views on YouTube alone!
In 2019, Gatie released his debut album, You. The album includes the singles "It's You," "Hi There," and "Say to You." In 2020, Gatie won a SOCAN Songwriting Prize for "It's You."
