About Tavares

The Tavares brothers are an R&B and soul music group from Brockton, Massachusetts, United States, that achieved popularity in the 1970s. The members of the group are Ralph Tavares (lead vocals), Arthur Tavares (bass guitar, vocals), Pooch Tavares (drums, percussion, vocals), Butch Tavares (keyboards, guitar, vocals), and Tiny Tavares (guitar, vocals). The brothers have been performing together since they were young children. The Tavares brothers began their recording career in the early 1970s with the release of their debut album, Check It Out. The album's first single, "She's Gone", was a minor hit, peaking at number ninety-four on the Billboard Hot 100. The album's second single, "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel", became a major hit, reaching number twelve on the Hot 100 and number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart. The song also peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart. The group's follow-up album, Sky High, was released in 1975 and reached number fifty-five on the Billboard 200. The album's only single, "It Only Takes a Minute", peaked at number eleven on the Hot 100 and number five on the Hot Soul Singles chart. In 1976, the group released its third album, In the City. The album peaked at number forty-one on the Billboard 200 and number seven on the Top R&B Albums chart. The album's only single, "Whodunit", reached number thirty-six on the Hot 100 and number two on the Hot Soul Singles chart. The group's fourth album, Future Bound, was released in 1977 and reached number thirty-seven on the Billboard 200 and number five on the Top R&B Albums chart. The album's only single, "Don't Take Away the Music", peaked at number seventy-six on the Hot 100 and number twelve on the Hot Soul Singles chart. In 1978, the group released their fifth album, Supercharged. The album peaked at number thirty-six on the Billboard 200 and number six on the Top R&B Albums chart. The album's only single, "You Are My Lady", peaked at number eighty-four on the Hot 100 and number nineteen on the Hot Soul Singles chart. The group's sixth album, New Direction, was released in 1979 and reached number forty-three on the Billboard 200 and number eight on the Top R&B Albums chart. The album's only single, "Ain't Gonna Give Up My Love", peaked at number sixty-nine on the Hot 100 and number fifteen on the Hot Soul Singles chart. The group's seventh and final album, Love Storm, was released in 1981 and reached number fifty-nine on the Billboard 200 and number eleven on the Top R&B Albums chart. The album's only single, "Are You Man Enough", peaked at number sixty-eight on the Hot 100 and number twenty-three on the Hot Soul Singles chart.
