Patrice Rushen is an American musician, composer, and producer who has been making music for over four decades. Since the early 1970s, she has been a major influence in the world of contemporary music. Her career began when she was a student at Howard University and started performing with her band, the Patrice Rushen Quintet. In 1978, she released her debut album Pizzazz which featured hit songs such as "Haven't You Heard" and "Look Up". After this success, sheet went on to release several other Patrice Rushen albums including Now (1982), Straight from the Heart (1984), and Watch Out! (1986). Throughout her career, she has worked with many renowned artists such as Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, and George Duke. In addition to her solo work, Patrice Rushen also composed music for television shows such as The Cosby Show and A Different World. She also wrote the theme song for the popular show Blossoms. She also collaborated on various projects with other musicians including Chaka Khan's hit single "I Feel For You".
As a result of her incredible work throughout her career, she has earned numerous awards including two Grammy Award nominations for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group for "Forget Me Nots" and Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) for "Silly".
