Monica Martin is a Chicago-born singer-songwriter who grew up in rural Wisconsin. She began her musical journey in high school, when she joined the choir and picked up a guitar. From there, she began writing her own songs and performing them at local coffeehouses. She eventually made her way to Nashville, where she honed her songwriting craft and released her debut album, "The Distance."
She was trained as a hairdresser and her only musical aspirations were to sing harmonies over the radio in jest. She was the lead singer of the renowned experimental-folk-pop sextet PHOX, which was founded not far from Madison, Wisconsin. Finally, Monica left Wisconsin for Los Angeles since it was "cold as f*ck" there. In the city of misfits, she has a tiny periwinkle casita of her own and feels more liberated than ever. She is currently working on creating the melodies for her "explorations in love f*ckery" using low-key pop tunes with blue note whispers, some Hollywood drama from the golden age, and psychedelic flickers from a theremin. Although Monica is still coming to terms with who she is, she is more than willing to impart her wisdom, saying, "I made hundreds of mistakes so you don't have to."
Martin's music has been featured on numerous TV shows, including "Grey's Anatomy," "One Tree Hill," and "Pretty Little Liars." She has also toured with the likes of Jewel, Melissa Etheridge, and Dierks Bentley.
