American R&B performer Keith Douglas Washington, a native of Detroit, cut the number-one single "Kissing You" in 1991. The background music for the ABC television soap series General Hospital also featured the song. A 1992 Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Single - Male went to "Kissing You," which was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance Male. Additionally, the song spent a week at the top of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list.
In 1993, Washington's second album, Make Time for Love, was released. It produced the charting singles "Are You Still Mine" and "Here We Go Again." The former peaked at number 22 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list while the latter rose to number 18. In 1996, Washington parted ways with MCA Records.
In the early 2000s, Washington made a comeback with the independently released albums Love Life (2001) and A Fine Lookin' Man (2002). The former featured the R&B hit "Forever." In 2010, Washington's album Dinner for One Please, James was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance category.
Washington took on a couple different acting roles. In an episode of the television show Martin titled "A Woman with a Past," he played himself and did a duet with Tisha Campbell-Martin singing the timeless ballad "The Closer I Get to You," which was made popular by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway in 1978. In addition, Keith played Keith Jasper for a brief time in the television drama General Hospital. Additionally, he played the hairdresser Dexter for a very little time in Janet Jackson's Poetic Justice, directed by John Singleton.
Washington continues to perform and tour throughout the United States. In addition to his work as a solo artist, he has also toured and performed with such notable acts as Patti LaBelle, Michael Bolton, Luther Vandross, Najee, and The Temptations.
