Earth, Wind & Fire is an American band that plays a range of genres including jazz, R&B, soul, funk, disco, pop, Latin, and Afro pop. They have been described as one of the most innovative and commercially successful bands of all time. The band was founded in Chicago in 1969 by Maurice White, who served as the band's primary songwriter, producer, and bandleader until his death in 2016.
With a signature sound that featured intricate horn arrangements, soaring vocal harmonies, and pulsating beats, the band found success in a variety of musical genres. Their debut album, The Earth, Wind & Fire Experience, was released in 1971 and was a commercial and critical success. It featured the hit single "Reasons", which reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The band's popularity grew with their next two albums, 1972's Last Days and Earth, Wind & Fire and 1973's Head to the Sky. The latter album featured the hit singles "Serpentine Fire" and "Sky High", which helped the band break into the mainstream.
With their powerful grooves and upbeat, danceable tunes, Earth, Wind & Fire ruled the '70s, earning 20 Grammy Award nominations (winning six as a group) and being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
