Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago, formed in 1999. The band's current line-up comprises vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tim McIlrath, lead guitarist Zach Blair, bassist Joe Principe, and drummer Brandon Barnes. Since its formation, the band has released nine studio albums, two live albums, one DVD, and 17 singles. The band's eighth studio album, Wolves, was released on June 9, 2017. Rise Against was formed in 1999 by McIlrath, Principe, and former drummer Toni Tintari. The band released its debut EP three months later, titled Transistor Revolt. In September 2000, the band released their first full-length studio album, The Unraveling on Fat Wreck Chords. The album achieved mainstream success, peaking at No.153 on the Billboard 200 chart.
In 2003, Rise Against signed with major label Geffen Records and released their second studio album, Revolutions per Minute. The album peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 chart and featured "Prayer of the Refugee", which became the band's first single to crack the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number 33. In 2004, the band released its third studio album, Siren Song of the Counter Culture, which peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200 and featured "Give It All", which was among Rise Against's most successful singles, peaking at number one on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart and number 60 on the Hot 100. In 2006, Rise Against released their fourth album, The Sufferer & the Witness. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and featured "Ready to Fall", which peaked at number 44 on the Hot 100.
In 2008, Rise Against released its fifth studio album, Appeal to Reason. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and featured "Re-Education (Through Labor)", which became the band's second single to crack the top 40 of the Hot 100, peaking at number 37. In 2011, Rise Against released its sixth studio album, Endgame. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and featured "Help Is on the Way", which peaked at number 39 on the Hot 100. In 2014, Rise Against released its seventh studio album, The Black Market. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and featured "I Don't Want to Be Here Anymore", which peaked at number 23 on the Hot 100, becoming Rise Against's highest-charting single to date.
