Years & Years is the solo project of British singer Olly Alexander. The band's first album, Communion, was released in 2015 and debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart. The album includes the hit singles "King" and "Desire".
Communion, the group's debut studio album, peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart in July 2015 and became the year's fastest-selling debut album by a band signed to a UK label. "King", the album's lead single, peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart in March 2015. "Desire", the second single from the album, reached number five on the UK chart in August 2015. The album's third single, "Eyes Shut", was released in November 2015 and peaked at number 21 in the UK.
In 2016, the band released the single "Meteorite" from their second album, Palo Santo. The song peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart in July 2018.
They collaborated with the Pet Shop Boys on the track "Dreamland," which was released on September 11. Alexander joined the Pet Shop Boys onstage for the song's performance at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park. The song was written in 2017 and was supposed to be on the Palo Santo album in 2018, however it was instead added to the Pet Shop Boys' 2020 album Hotspot.
The band revealed in an Instagram post on March 18, 2021, that Olly Alexander will essentially be working on a solo record for them. The album is set to be released in the summer of 2021.
"Starstruck" was declared to be the first track off Years & Years' upcoming third studio album on March 23, 2021. Years & Years' first solo project, the song was released on April 8, 2021. On May 21, 2021, a remix with Australian singer Kylie Minogue was made available.
