Will Young was born on January 20, 1979, in Wokingham, Berkshire, England as William Robert Young. He is a singer-songwriter who shot to fame in 2002 after winning the first series of Pop Idol. Since then, he has released seven studio albums, each of which has achieved critical and commercial success. Young's first single "Anything Is Possible"/"(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" was released in 2002 and became the fastest-selling debut single in the UK. His debut album From Now On was released in 2002 and went to number one. His second album Friday's Child followed in 2003 and peaked at number three. His third album Keep On was released in 2005 and peaked at number four. In 2006, he released his fourth album Let It Go which debuted at number one. The album's first single, "Leave Right Now" became the highest charting solo male artist single of all time in the UK, peaking at number two.
In 2007, he released his fifth album Echoes which debuted at number two and spawned three top ten singles. Will's album Crying On The Bathroom Floor was a commercial success, reaching #3 in the UK album chart. In 2012, Will Young came out as gay in an interview with The Times. He is a patron of LGBT charities Stonewall and Switchboard. Young has sold over 8 million records in the UK. He has won two Brit Awards, four Ivor Novello Awards, and numerous other awards. He was also a judge on The X Factor in 2010. In March 2015, Will Young announced he was taking a break from music to focus on his mental health. In September 2016, he announced his return with a new album and single. His acting career flourished with roles in theater, film, and television, as well as hosting radio shows.
