The Drums, an American indie pop band from New York City, have been making music since 2009. They are led by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Pierce, who is joined by Jacob Graham on guitar and synthesizers, Connor Hanwick on drums, and Adam Kessler on bass. The band has released four studio albums since their formation: Summertime!, Portamento, Encyclopedia, and Abysmal Thoughts. The Drums’ debut album Summertime! was released in 2010 to critical acclaim. It featured the hit singles “Let’s Go Surfing” and “Best Friend” which both charted in the UK Top 40 Singles Chart. The album was certified Gold in the UK and earned them a prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song. This album also won them an NME award for Best Album of 2011 as well as a nomination for Best Alternative Album at the 2012 Grammy Awards. The Drums have continued to release successful albums over the years with Encyclopedia (2014) and Abysmal Thoughts (2017). Both albums were met with critical acclaim from fans and critics alike with Encyclopedia being certified Silver in the UK while Abysmal Thoughts received a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2018 Grammy Awards. Their most recent single “Body Chemistry” was released in 2019 to much fanfare, reaching number 1 on Billboard Dance/Electronic Digital Songs Chart as well as topping various other charts around the world.
