Shayna Steele, the Grammy-nominated singer, and songwriter, is a powerhouse vocalist who has made her mark in the music industry. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Steele began her career at an early age when she joined her family's gospel group, The Steele Family Singers. After graduating from The University of the Arts with a degree in Jazz Vocal Performance, she went on to become a professional backup singer for artists such as Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Beyonce. In 2010, Steele released her debut album "Rise", which featured songs like "Let Me Down Easy" and "I'm Gonna Be Alright". This album earned her two Grammy nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song. In addition to singing solo, Steele has also been part of several other musical projects such as the Broadway production of Rent (2005) and the Off-Broadway show Avenue Q (2006). She was also part of the band Scissor Sisters from 2006 to 2011. During this time, she toured with them extensively across Europe and North America. Her vocals can be heard on their albums Ta-Dah (2006) and Night Work (2010).
In recent years, Steele has continued to build upon her success by releasing new music as well as touring with various artists including Sting and Cyndi Lauper. Her 2017 EP "Ready To Fly" included a duet with Sting titled “Stolen Car” which was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards. In addition to this collaboration, Steele also released her single “Ain't Got Time For Hate” in 2019 which was inspired by civil rights activists such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and John Lewis.
