Midge Ure is a Scottish singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer who has been active in the music industry since the 1970s. He rose to fame as the frontman of the new wave band Ultravox during the early 1980s. Midge has released several solo albums throughout his career, including The Gift, Answers to Nothing, and Breathe. His musical style ranges from new wave pop to electronic rock and he has achieved great success with both genres. Midge Ure began his career in 1977 when he joined the new wave band Slik as lead vocalist and guitarist. He then went on to join Ultravox which gained worldwide recognition for its hit single Vienna in 1981. This song topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). In 1982, Midge left Ultravox and embarked on a successful solo career with his debut album The Gift which reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.
It featured hit singles such as If I Was, Fade To Grey, That Certain Smile, and Love's Great Adventure. In 1984, Midge released his second studio album The Works which spawned two top-ten singles; Call Of The Wild and Dancing With Tears In My Eyes. During this period, he also wrote Do They Know Its Christmas? with Bob Geldof which became an international hit single that raised millions of pounds for famine relief in Ethiopia. After releasing two more solo albums - Answers To Nothing (1988) and Breathe (1996) - Midge continued to collaborate with other artists on their projects while also touring extensively around Europe.
