Max and Iggor Cavalera are a Brazilian heavy metal band that has been making music since 1984. Brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera formed the group in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The two brothers' musical journey began when they were just teenagers and has continued to evolve over the years. With their signature blend of thrash metal, death metal, hardcore punk, and groove metal, the Cavaleras have created an impressive body of work that is beloved by fans all over the world. The Cavaleras' debut album, Morbid Visions, was released in 1986 to critical acclaim. It was followed by 1987's Schizophrenia which further cemented their place as one of the most influential acts in extreme metal. In 1989 they released their third album Beneath The Remains which saw them reach new heights with its mix of thrash and death metal elements. This record also marked the beginning of their long-standing collaboration with producer Scott Burns who produced all of their albums until 2006's Dark Ages.
In 1991, Max and Iggor Cavalera released Arise which became a landmark album for the band as it further expanded upon their sound with its incorporation of groove elements into their already established thrash/death metal style. This album also featured some of their most iconic songs such as "Dead Embryonic Cells" and "Refuse/Resist". Following this release, they went on to release Chaos A.D in 1993 which is widely considered to be one of the most important albums in heavy metal history due to its influence on many other bands within the genre. In 1996, Max left Sepultura due to creative differences but continued his musical career with his brother Iggor under the name "Cavalera Conspiracy". Together they released four studio albums between 2007-2014 before taking a break from recording new material until 2019 when they announced plans for a new album titled ‘Ritual’ which will be released later this year.
The Cavaleras have been touring extensively since 2016 when they reunited after 20 years apart to play shows around Europe and North America. They have since gone on to tour Japan, Australia, South America, India and more!
