She began taking classical singing lessons at age 10 after being inspired by Britney Spears, and later joined a high school band that performed versions of Avril Lavigne and Evanescence. Jacklin graduated from the University of Sydney with a degree in communications. Jacklin's musical style has been described as "indie folk" or "alt-country". She has cited Gillian Welch, Bonnie Raitt, and Ani Difranco as influences. Jacklin's debut album, Don't Let the Kids Win, was released in 2016 to critical acclaim. The album was nominated for the Australian Music Prize, and Jacklin won the Taite Music Prize for Best Independent Debut Album. Jacklin's sophomore album, Crushing, was released in 2019 to even greater acclaim. The album was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Folk Album, and Jacklin won the Australian Music Prize.
