Javed Ali is an Indian playback singer who predominantly sings in Hindi. He has also sung in other languages including Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. In Panchkuian Road, Delhi, Javed Hussain was given the name Javed Ali. He went to school in Paharganj at Ramjas School 4. Javed Ali began singing with his father, the well-known qawwali singer Ustad Hamid Hussain, at a very young age. He claimed in an interview that his dad used to sing kirtans. When Ghulam Ali heard Ali's voice, he thought he had the potential to develop into a renowned singer. Javed was mentored by Ghulam Ali, who also offered him the opportunity to perform live. Javed changed his name from Javed Hussain to Javed Ali as a mark of respect and homage to his guru Ghulam Ali. Ali's career began when he won the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contest as an adult. He was noticed by music director Sanjay Leela Bhansali when he competed on the television show. Bhansali gave him his first movie playback singing opportunity with the song "Nagada Nagada" from the film Jab We Met (2007). After a number of unsuccessful attempts, he finally gained recognition with the song "Tum Hi Ho" from Aashiqui 2 (2013), for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer. Ali has sung many songs for Bhansali's films, including Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018). He has also worked with other music directors including Amit Trivedi, Pritam Chakraborty, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar and Anu Malik. In addition to playback singing, Ali has also appeared as a judge on reality television shows. He was a judge on the first two seasons of The Voice India Kids. He is currently a judge on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs. Ali has won several awards and accolades, including the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer, the IIFA Award for Best Male Playback Singer and the Mirchi Music Award for Best Male Playback Singer.
