George Ezra Barnett (born 7 June 1993) is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He released his debut studio album, Wanted on Voyage, in June 2014, which reached number one in the UK and the top ten in seven other countries. His second studio album, Staying at Tamara's, was released in March 2018 and also reached number one in the UK as well as number nine in the US. Between 2014 and 2017, Ezra achieved five number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart with his songs "Budapest", "Blame It on Me", "Listen to the Man", "Don't Matter Now" and "Paradise". George Ezra Barnett was born in Hertfordshire and raised in Bristol. His mother is an art teacher and his father is a lecturer in criminology. He has a sister named Jess. Ezra's great-grandfather, Wynn Barnett, fought as a soldier in the British Army during World War II. Wynn was also a professional footballer who played for Ipswich Town and Bristol Rovers. Ezra attended St Bede's College, Bristol before moving to Abbey Gate College, a boarding independent school in Savernake Forest near Marlborough in Wiltshire. While studying English literature at the University of Kent in Canterbury, he began to pursue a career in music. In 2010, Ezra released his first EP, did you hear the rain?, which he self-released on 28 October.
The extended play included the tracks "Budapest", "Cassy O'", and "Listen to the Man". The song "Budapest" reached number 37 on the UK Singles Chart in March 2014, after it was used in a British Airways commercial. In 2013, Ezra released his second EP, Stand by Your Gun. Ezra's major label debut album, Wanted on Voyage, was released in June 2014. The album peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart and in the top ten in seven other countries. In November 2014, Ezra was nominated for the BBC Music Awards for his song "Budapest", which won the prize for Song of the Year. Ezra's second studio album, Staying at Tamara's, was released in March 2018. The album peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart and number nine on the US Billboard 200 chart. The lead single from the album, "Paradise", peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart in February 2018. Ezra has cited Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Leonard Cohen, and The Beatles as his musical influences. He also cites Elvis Presley as an influence, saying "If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be making music." His new album, Gold Rush Kid, is now out. George Ezra has traveled the world extensively, seeing everything from the green grass fields to the blue sky above.
