Ebi (Ebrahim Hamedi) is a popular Iranian film director, producer, screenwriter, and pop singer who first rose to prominence as part of a boy band in Tehran and later as a solo artist. While attending high school, Ebi began singing in local clubs and events. He soon became a member of an Iranian boy band called Boys Union, which was very popular in Tehran at the time. The group toured throughout Iran and released several successful singles before disbanding in 1977. Ebi then embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut album, Toofan, in 1978. The album was a huge success, spawning several hit singles and establishing Ebi as one of Iran's most popular singers. After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, Ebi remained in exile in Los Angeles. He continued to release albums and tours throughout the 1980s and 1990s, becoming one of the most popular Iranian singers in the world. He was recognized as Mr. Voice of the World at the event and received the title of Mr. Voice of the World for over 50 years. Ebi has published close to 200 singles and about 30 albums during his career, which spans more than four decades. He has been awarded numerous honors for his work in the Iranian cinema industry. He won two Fajr International Film Festival awards in 2000 and 2004 as well as a Crystal Simorgh at the 16th Iran Cinema Celebration in 2000. In 2001 he also received a Crystal Simorgh at the 17th Iran Cinema Celebration for Best Screenplay. He was also awarded Best Director honors at the 19th Iran Cinema Celebration in 2003, making him one of only two directors to win both Best Director and Best Screenplay awards. Ebi's work has been praised by both critics and audiences alike, earning him international recognition from festivals such as Cannes, San Sebastian, Taormina, and Montreal World Film Festival.
