The Downchild Blues Band is a Canadian blues band that, according to one critic, is "the best blues act in Canada." The real name of the band was shortened to "Downchild" in the early 1980s. The Blues Brothers band was strongly influenced by the Downchild Blues Band.
The Downchild Blues Band was formed in Toronto in 1969 by brothers Donnie and Richard "Hock" Walsh. The band's first album, Straight Up, was released in 1973. The band has been led by Donnie Walsh since its inception.
The Downchild Blues Band has been nominated for eight Juno Awards and has won two. In 2003, the band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
The band's most recent album, "Can You Hear the Music?" was released in 2013. The album received a Juno Award nomination for Blues Album of the Year.
