DCappella is an a cappella group comprised of members found via a national search, and it is run by Disney Music Group. The repertoire for the vocal ensemble includes songs from various Disney movies.
DCappella began in 2012 when auditions first started. Then, in December 2017, it was revealed that Disney Music Group had created it following a massive nationwide talent search led by Deke Sharon. A seven-person ensemble including a soprano, mezzo, alto, tenor, high baritone, low bass, and vocal percussionist was the original plan.
The seven singers were officially announced as Morgan Keene, the soprano from Newsies, Shelley Regner, the mezzo from Pitch Perfect, Sojourner Brown, the alto from the Tony Awards, RJ Woessner, the tenor from Saturday Night Live, Orlando Dixon, the baritone from The Voice, Joe Santoni, the bass, and Antonio Fernandez, the vocal percussionist from American Music Machine, on April 29, 2018. Disney had planned for two distinct touring teams under the DCappella group at the time, therefore a list of 14 members was made public in January 2018.
On April 27, 2018, Disney Music released the band's debut single, "Immortals" from the animated film "Big Hero 6." On April 29, 2018, DCappella debuted on American Idol's Disney Night. The trio performed at its first concert over Memorial Day weekend 2018 at the Hollywood Bowl[9] alongside ABC's first Idol winner Maddie Poppe as the opening act to Disney's Beauty and the Beast Live in Concert. On November 16, 2018, the group's first self-titled album was made available.
