Disco Inferno was an English experimental rock band active in the late 1980s and the 1990s. The band was formed by singer/guitarist Ian Crause, bassist Paul Wilmott, drummer Rob Whatley, and keyboardist/programmer Stephen Walker. The band's music is a unique blend of post-punk, funk, and electronica, creating a sound that has been described as "danceable art rock". Disco Inferno released their debut album Technicolour in 1988 to critical acclaim. The album spawned two singles: "The Last Dance" and "I'm In Love With A German Film Star". Both singles reached the UK Top 40, with the latter peaking at number 12. In 1990, Disco Inferno released their second album Science. This record featured the single "Footsteps", which peaked at number 28 on the UK Singles Chart. Following this release, the band embarked on a tour of Europe and North America to promote their music. Over the next few years, they released several more albums including Calcutta (1992), D.I. Go Pop (1994) and Life After Death (1996). They also earned several awards for their work including Best British Band at the NME Awards in 1992 and Best Album at the Brit Awards in 1996 for Life After Death. After disbanding in 1997, Disco Inferno reunited for a series of concerts throughout Europe in 2018 to celebrate their 30th anniversary as a band.
