Culture Club are an English new wave band formed in London in 1981. The band comprises Boy George (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Roy Hay (guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Mikey Craig (bass guitar) and Jon Moss (drums, percussion). They are considered one of the most representative and influential groups of the 1980s.
The group's music combines Latin American, reggae and traditional pop influences. The band has sold more than 50 million records worldwide.
The band's debut album, Kissing to Be Clever (1982), reached number two in the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum in the United States. Their second album, Colour by Numbers (1983), was an international success, topping the charts in 16 countries. The single "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" reached number one in various countries, including the UK and US.
The band's next album, Waking Up with the House on Fire (1984), failed to match its predecessors' success but did contain the UK hit single "The War Song". The band's fifth album, From Luxury to Heartache (1986), was a commercial failure. After Culture Club went on hiatus in 1987, Boy George pursued a solo career.
In 1992, the group reformed and released their sixth album,Ultimate. The band toured extensively but failed to recapture the same level of success as their earlier work. In 2002, the band recorded a new album, Don't Mind If I Do. This was followed by tours in Europe and Australia.
In 2008, the band recorded the album Dangerous Game. The singles "I Just Wanna Be Loved" and "Yes We Can" were modest hits in the UK. In 2013, the band released their tenth album, Tribes.
