Chvrches are a Scottish pop band from Glasgow, formed in September 2011. The band consists of Lauren Mayberry (lead vocals, occasional keyboard and percussion), Iain Cook (synthesizers, guitar, bass, backing vocals), and Martin Doherty (synthesizers, samplers, backing vocals). Chvrches have released three studio albums: The Bones of What You Believe (2013), Every Open Eye (2015), and Love Is Dead (2018). The band's debut album was nominated for the 2013 Scottish Album of the Year Award. Their second album peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart and topped the US Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart, while their single "Clearest Blue" reached number five on the UK Singles Chart and number one on the US Dance Club Songs chart. The band's third album debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart and number four on the Billboard 200, while their single "Get Out" peaked at number 11 on the UK Singles Chart and became their first top 40 hit in the United States. Chvrches have been nominated for four Brit Awards, winning the Best Breakthrough Act in 2014. They have also received two Grammy Award nominations, for Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronica Album. In 2019, the band was included on the BBC's Sounds of the 2010s list. Chvrches started working on their fourth album in February 2020. In an interview with DIY, Mayberry said the album would be "quite different" from their previous work. The band released the single "How Not to Drown" on 13 August 2020, followed by "Death Stranding" on 27 September 2020. On 4 March 2021, Chvrches announced that their fourth album, Screen Violence, would be released on 18 June 2021. The album's lead single, "He Said She Said", was released on the same day.
